Buyer

As a Buyer, you will manage a portfolio of suppliers and monitor their performance to ensure we source the best products. You’ll balance price, quality, and delivery to maintain a reliable supply that meets the business’s budget and operational goals.

Roles & Responsibilities
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Research and identify the best product sources in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets
  • Build relationships with suppliers and negotiate with them for the best pricing
  • Responsible for spot deals and direct buying
  • Ensure continuous maintenance and expansion of the business product sources and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations
  • Monitor market trends, competitor strategies and market suppliers
  • Deliver briefs, updates and reports as and when required
  • Develop creative and innovative procurement processes
  • Develop ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement
  • Negotiate contracts, improved prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings through negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods
  • Assess and evaluate suppliers and undertake performance reviews to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement activities
  • Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships
  • Explore alternate sources for goods
  • Assess tenders and quotations from potential suppliers
  • Undertake research on and evaluate existing and new suppliers
  • Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues
  • Ensuring stock availability across the business
  • Controlling of the inventory of stock by identifying, reducing, and eliminating slow moving stock and streamlining the variety of stock held.
  • Placing orders with suppliers, updating all data aspects of the supply chain, including order confirmations, expected delivery dates, delay reporting, chasing overdue information & goods.
  • Provide a forecast by analysing demand patterns, identifying trends, using demand planning tools and communicating with stakeholders.
  • Monitoring stock forecasts vs actual usage, mitigating supply risks as a result.
Relationship Management
  • Managing and reporting on the performance of suppliers and holding them to account whilst continuously trying to improve and develop both the commercial and operational relationship with suppliers
  • Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the supply and demand
  • Attend meetings and update others on issues or concerns, when there is a risk which could prevent the
    business meeting customer demands or where there are over capacity concerns
  • Support product change requests and review and communicate the impact on capacity plans
  • Build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and ensure good communications
Requirements
Essential
  • Previous experience leading a purchasing function
  • Experience of managing people
  • High degree of commercial acumen with strong attention to detail
  • Highly numerate with solid analytical skills, an in-depth understanding of what represents business value and how it is delivered within a supplier arrangement
  • Ability to quickly build and develop very trusted relationships with key stakeholders, that may involve persuading and/or countering opposition
  • Broad knowledge of forecasting and inventory control
  • Excellent commercial awareness, with an ability to analyse sales and trends
  • Strong analytical skills - ability to deal with large amounts of complex data
  • Open communicator - able to communicate clearly in both written and verbal forms
  • Ability to drive and deliver new initiatives and process improvements
Desirable
  • Previous experience of working within a commercial environment in a small business
  • Experience of working within the mobile accessories and devices sales and distribution environment
