Playing Our Part in National Apprenticeship Week

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW2022) is a time to celebrate apprentices and highlight the positive impact they have on our business. At Genuine Solutions’ our company mantra is #PlayYourPart which is our way of saying that we’re passionate about supporting and developing our staff to become the best they can possibly be and that’s what being an apprentice is all about.

Our apprenticeship courses run from 12 to 30 months and cover the full spectrum of business-related content including Warehouse Operative, HR Support, Waste Resource Operative, Data Analyst, Team Supervisor or Senior Leader and International Freight Forwarding Specialist. Each Genuine Solutions apprenticeship course is designed to run alongside their paid employment.

Investing in the future

We’re investors in people, and we’re fortunate to have a diverse team right across the business. For us, it’s about attitude, willingness to learn and flexibility rather than specific skills or background. Apprenticeships give our employees the confidence and skills to build their future with us. Leading by example, members of our Senior leadership took the bold decision to undertake apprenticeships as a way to encourage the wider team. – Davide Rua, Neil Robinson, Neil Evans and Chris McBride – and we look forward to welcoming more staff onto our apprenticeship courses this year.

Apprenticeship journeys

Neil Evans has attended the CMI L5 Leadership and Management Apprenticeship course which covers everything from managing people, building relationships, self-awareness, finance, project management and operational management. He comments “I was not able to attend higher education after my schooling, and since then all the education that I have got since has been short courses and general training. By May I should hopefully be receiving a Level 5 certification which is on the same level as a formal university degree. This is huge for both my career and personal confidence, as I will finally have a formal qualification that backs up my experience.”

Fellow apprentice, Neil Robinson has gained confidence since starting his journey last year and has benefited from learning the skill of strategic planning so he can now create plans for himself and the team, setting objectives and working towards goals. He said, “The modules cover all areas of the business, and coaching sessions with our mentor give us guidance throughout. The course is shaping my career and my goal is to progress within the business, helping it move forward.”

Speaking about the value of apprenticeships, Sabrina Willabus, Director of HR and People said, “We believe in providing our employees with more than just a job, but an opportunity to learn, develop and grow and we encourage all our employees to get involved. Our apprentice scheme is an effective means of upskilling our workforce and providing opportunities for career progression where we can promote from within.”
