The target is to collect over 1,000 donations which will be repurposed, reused or recycled to provide financial support to maintain the essential around-the-clock support the Samaritan’s volunteer teams offer to the vulnerable.

Paul Crossman, CEO at Genuine Solutions commented, “As a business it is our goal to protect our planet and the people within the communities we live in. We are incredibly proud to be working alongside the Samaritans and to support them with this great initiative. We are delighted to be involved and it is extremely rewarding knowing that funds generated through the recovery and relove of the donated devices, will help the Samaritans to continue to offer life changing support for those who find themselves in difficult times.”

Kevin Siggery, Branch Director for East Surrey Samaritans said, “East Surrey Samaritans is piloting a local device donation campaign. The campaign will encourage the public to recycle unwanted mobile devices through collection boxes around Reigate; helping the environment, at the same time as turning these devices into funding for our branch. As an independently-funded charity, our volunteers depend on donations to keep the branch open, day and night, taking calls from people who rely on our listeners to support them when they are struggling to cope.

We are enormously grateful for the assistance we have received from Genuine Solutions in creating and building this initiative, and look forward to increasing the scope of the campaign in the future.”

How it works

All products received by Genuine Solutions will be segregated, catalogued, graded and tested, to determine how and where each product should be placed for recycling or resale, with all profits going direct to The Samaritans East Surrey.

GDPR and environmental compliance are at the core of these processes, to ensure all devices are wiped free of personal data and the recycle and reuse destinations are both ethical and safe.

How to support

Those who wish to get involved are asked to search their drawers and cupboards at home for unused mobile phones and mobile accessories. Collection envelopes and secure containers are located throughout September at Andrews Estate Agents or at Reigate Town Hall. There will also be a collection point at the Samaritans stand at Run Reigate taking place in Priory Park on Saturday 18th September. Businesses or local community groups who wish to participate can get in touch with Genuine Solutions and we can arrange for a local collection.
